LISBON SPORTS CLUB

Lisbon Sports Club

Lisbon Sports Club

The origins of the Lisbon Sports Club go back to 1880 when a group of English residents living in the Lisbon area decided to found a Sports Club. After ten years they built a small six-hole golf course in Alges. The club relocated in 1922 to Alto da Ajuda and a nine-hole golf course. Then in 1962, the Club moved yet once more to its present location at Casal de Carregueira between the villages of Belas and Vale de Lobos. Its original nine holes were increased periodically until finally in 1992 Lisbon Sports Club could boast an 18 hole course.

The course is relatively short but the topography and layout of the land make the course deceptively difficult and the player must use their experience and wit to navigate the challenges. It has a narrow fairway lined with old trees and a stream follows most of the course. Each hole seems so much different from the previous. The clubhouse occupies the former Manor House of Casal da Carregueira which overlooks picturesque woodland. In addition to the gold course, you can also find a swimming pool and tennis courts.

QUINTA DO PERU & COUNTRY CLUB

Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club

Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club

With the Arrábida mountains as a backdrop, the Quinta do Peru golf course offers amateurs a pleasant game, whilst also offering a challenge for professionals. Since 1999 Quinta do Peru Golf Course has been in the Top 100 Courses in Continental Europe, according to the prestigious magazine, Golf World. With its woodland and wildflowers, the course provides a varied start, for the first three holes consist of a par 5, a 386-metre par 4 and a 186-metre par 3. Amongst the first nine holes, attention is drawn to the short eighth hole, with a lake in front of its green. The next 9 holes are even more difficult. Hole 12 is a par 4 which, although not very long, has a lake running alongside the fairway and down to the green. Afterwards is probably the most difficult test on the course: hole 16, a 200-metre par 3, where one needs to play over a lake to reach the green. The course’s recognised quality has led to its hosting several events from the European Challenge Tour.

RIBAGOLFE 2

Ribagolfe 2

Ribagolfe 2

The course was designed by the former European Tour player, Michael King. Set within an environment of cork oak trees and while the style is more British than American (like Ribagolfe I), there is still a certain feeling of uniformity. This course is designed to carry more players as seen by its length and the width of the fairways. The greens are pretty huge and moderately contoured. Water hazards feature in only two holes.

Santo Estêvão

Designed by the renowned English architect Donald Steel, with a portfolio of hundreds of golf courses around the world, the Santo Estêvão Golf feels very English in style. TRÓIA GOLF

Tróia Golf

Tróia Golf

The opposite bank of the Sado estuary lies the long narrow sand bar of Tróia. Thirty kilometres (19mi) of unbroken beach, dunes and woodland. The flat topography makes it also ideal for golf. The northern tip is where you'll find an exceptional 36 hectare 18-hole golf course. This prestigious golf course was ranked number 17 in Europe’s Top 100 according to Golf World magazine.

The acclaimed golf architect Robert Trent Jones Senior achieved an excellent world-class championship layout and provided a genuine test of skill for those of lower handicaps together with enjoyment for the more modest player. In 2008 whilst the golf course was being refurbished, a new Clubhouse was built. Designed by the architect João Paciência, the Clubhouse offers you the chance to savour a scrumptious meal overseeing the lake in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape.
